Yoga and Astrology

In XLY Studio, a series was recently published by Nina Adams in which two great tools for self-observation and personal growth were combined: Astroyoga . A practice that combines the knowledge of Yoga and Astrology in a unique methodology, a psycho-corporeal experience of the zodiacal wheel.

Yoga and Astrology

Do you know AstroYoga?

As I was telling you, Astroyoga draws on the knowledge of yoga and astrology. On the one hand, yoga connects us with our body and activates our energy centers ( chakras ). On the other hand, astrology leads us to understand the world from a different language and worldview, generating new paradigms, and invites us to live in full harmony with the rhythm of the Universe.

Nina’s classes from XLY Studio combine yoga and astrology. In her XLY Studio classes you will work on all aspects of a regular yoga practice ( meditation , asanas and pranayamas ) and the sequences vary according to the chosen astrological theme.

There are many ways to approach an AstroYoga practice. It can be in a personalized way, through your birth chart, or in a more general way through different points of astrological focus such as the 4 elements present in your sun sign, your moon sign and the rest of the planets.

Yoga of the 4 elements

XLY Studio’s Yoga and Astrology classes are based on the 4 elements: water, fire, earth and air. In Astrology, the four elements of nature speak of four ways of perceiving reality. Four different expressions of the human personality.

For the human being with spiritual awareness, it is obvious that it is formed by the same qualities as the matter that surrounds us, also of the stars and heavenly bodies, recognizing how the primordial elements of the planet will give it life and personality.

The four elements allow us to discover different human shades that emerged from the observation of the different states in which matter can be expressed on this planet: solid (earth), liquid (water), gas (air) and plasma (fire).

The Earth lives polarized in two basic pulses: day/night and cold/heat. Everything is born from the interaction of two complementary opposites (male/female, active/passive, yin/yang).

Astrology marks subjective and objective ways of embodying the active and the receptive, which also link and explain the 4 elements:

  • Masculine or active ⟶ Fire + Air : Extroverted, active and explicit. Oriented towards ideas, the outside world and the future. Fire will be masculine and subjective (desiring) and Air, masculine and objective (rational).
  • Feminine and receptive ⟶ Earth and Water : Observers, nurturing, introverted and withdrawn. Oriented towards the subjective world and the past, they bring nourishment, feeling and stability. The Earth will be feminine and objective (realistic) and the Water, feminine and subjective (sensible).

It is possible that each person identifies with more than one element or that, perhaps, the characteristics described do not coincide exactly with the element of the zodiac sign to which they belong. This is because our individuality is more complex than that represented exclusively by our zodiac sign. The zodiac sign is the one we all know, it is only the location of the Sun at our moment of birth. But in our natal chart the other planets of the solar system, the Moon and the Ascendant, are symbolized, and the influence of these highlights or subtracts the presence of these elements. Knowing your own birth chart allows you to discover your personal combination of elements.

The 4 elements and the zodiac sign

As I explained, there are 4 elements and each zodiac sign is associated with one of these elements. XLS Studio’s AstroYoga series consists of one episode for each of the elements.

  • Fire – Associated with the signs of Leo, Aries, Sagittarius. Strength and dynamism will be worked on in the classes
  • Earth – Associated with Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. In the classes stability and resistance will be worked on.
  • Air : associated with Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. In the classes, coordination and concentration will be worked on.
  • Water : associated with the signs of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Sensitivity and fluency will be worked on in the classes.

Where does AstroYoga come from?

Nina tells us that this method of yoga and astrology arises from integrating her personal experience -with almost twenty years dedicated to yoga-, meditation and her certification as a psychological Astrologer. In her classes, she combines her years of study and experience to lead her students to a deep self-knowledge.
